Triticale

What Triticale is typically used for:

Triticale is a versatile crop. Mainly used for livestock feed, it is a popular choice for pig and poultry diets due too its high lysine levels and favourable digestibility.

Its robust straw strength and absorption qualities also make it ideal for livestock bedding. The crop is a key constituent of winter bird food and game cover. It is suited to bio-enthanol production as it has lower protein content than wheat, and when harvested as whole crop, can be used for silage and as a green fuel for renewable energy production systems.

Some opportunities are also emerging with human health/organic food markets as the grains are high-fibre, high in protein and contain valuable nutrients including folates and magnesium.
